Underground Secrets of Belgrade
Uncover the hidden secrets and dark history of Belgrade!
Step back in time as we explore fascinating and mysterious sites, starting with the Roman Well. This deep, 18th-century marvel, constructed during the baroque reconstruction of the fortress, hides many stories. At 51 meters deep, with two spiral staircases that twist together to form a DNA-like shape, it is one of Belgrade’s most intriguing attractions. Legend has it that Alfred Hitchcock himself visited in 1964 and found the atmosphere truly captivating.
We’ll also venture into a military bunker from Tito's era—an eerie reminder of the Cold War. Although it was never used for its intended purpose, the bunker hides secrets about a tense time in history.
Next, we’ll visit the Barutana, an Austrian gunpowder storehouse from the 16th century, now a man-made cave. Inside, you’ll discover an impressive collection of Byzantine and Roman sarcophagi, tombstones, and statues in the Lapidarium—a space that feels like a portal to ancient times.
Along the way, we'll explore caverns that once stored food, and finish our tour in a 19th-century wine cellar, where you’ll be treated to a complimentary glass of wine.
Prepare to dive deep into Belgrade's hidden past, where history, mystery, and legends blend into an unforgettable experience!
